For those of you who are not familiar with this iconic poem, here (on the poster and on the right official website for the poem itself) is the original and copyrighted text taken from a page written in her own hand and dated to the 1930s. Mary Stevenson had a most difficult life as many did during the depression. During the 30s Mary moved from suburban Philadelphia to Oklahoma(Claremore outside of Tulsa) where she stayed with her infant son, somewhat in hiding and somewhat escaping from an abusive marriage. She returned to Philadelphia after the outbreak of the war and her life, although difficult and at times heartbreaking, was sustained by the faith and inspiration of her words.
